Fostering Holistic Growth: Book Free Fridays at Kavya School

BY DSSS, Kathmandu, August 20:

Kavya School students enjoyed practical based learning activities through various co-curricular and extracurricular activities last Friday. They were involved in various activities every Friday with club activities for the skill based learning programs conducted by their respective teachers. Some students were engaged in a variety of Extra Curricular Activities such as; basketball, cricket, football, taekwondo, dance, arts and drawing, acting, singing and dancing and others participated and learned outside the school premises too.

Last week, on 18th August grade nine students visited and observed the demonstration at Nepal Police Canine Division Maharajgunj, Kathmandu along with their teachers and Head Constable Mr. Tara Ram Dayal sir. They got the detail information about the roles and importance of dogs in police investigation by Nepal Police Inspector Dr. Chet Narayan Gyawali. Similarly, grade ten students also prepared the bio-data of their parents, and relatives and shared them in Nepali class. Likewise, grade one to three students were involved in different projects and fun based learning activities on that day. Further, grade four to eight students were also involved in house wall magazines, math quiz, project work presentation, English and Nepali poem recitation etc.

Students nowadays are more excited as they are learning different life skills every Friday. Suniska Gharti of grade nine student is happy to learn badminton every Friday. She shares, “I am glad to learn something new besides the academic course at the school”. “We do practice dance, music, debate, and learn arts and drawing every Friday,” said Shanvi Khanal of grade nine. Shubhashree Raut shares, “It always captivates me because I feel it as a special day to us. I have even started practicing badminton in my leisure time too.” Deewasna Khanal of grade nine expressed that Fridays are more like great days with skill-based activities when students get to practice music, games, and other ECA and CCAs freely under the guidance of teachers.

Arjun Thapa Magar, a facilitator and HOD of English at Kavya School, believes that the book-free campaign is facilitating students to enhance their presentation skill, critical thinking skill and also assisting to broaden their ideas and knowledge with outdoor activities. He adds that mostly it is also helping students for their holistic development.
